Festival Guidelines

Festival Concert

Sunday, June 29, 2025 – 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM

AmateurPianists is pleased to present the Festival, a unique opportunity for amateur pianists to perform on a beautiful, 9-foot Steinway concert grand piano in the Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center, also known as The Conrad. The Festival is not judged, providing the opportunity to perform without the stress of a competition. It is open and free to family, friends, and the public.

 

The Festival will be held in the state-of-the-art Baker-Baum Concert Hall, the centerpiece of The Conrad, located in the village of La Jolla. With a seating capacity of 513, it is an intimate performance space with superb acoustics ideally suited for chamber music and classical recitals.

Eligibility

  1. Applicants must be at least 25 years of age by June 27, 2025.

  2. Applications must be completed and a Festival fee of $100 paid by April 1, 2025.

  3. Applicants must be amateur pianists, defined herein as those who do not make their living primarily through piano performance.

  4. Four-hand music is eligible. Please apply as TWO SEPARATE entries. (Application fee is $120, $60 for each applicant).

Repertoire

  1. Festival applicants are free to choose their music, which could be a single piece or a number of shorter pieces.

  2. The total performance time must not exceed 9 minutes.

  3. The applicant may elect to play from memory or with music. (If needed, the applicant will provide their own page-turner.)

Note: The repertoire and total performance time are required as part of the application form.

 

Participants Selection
AmateurPianists will select the Festival participants via random drawing. For those who are not selected, we will refund the Festival Application Fee.


(Participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodations.)

Key Dates

April 1, 2025
This is the deadline for submitting the Festival Application Form. The Festival Application Form includes the $100 Festival fee.

 

April 15, 2025
AmateurPianists will notify participants selected for the Festival Concert. We will refund 100% of the application fee to applicants not selected. Participants may purchase additional tickets to the Welcome Reception upon acceptance.

 

May 15, 2025
This is the deadline for submitting any repertoire changes to be included in the program.
Note: For changes in repertoire, the total performance duration must be the same or less than the original time included on the application.

 

June 21, 2025
AmateurPianists will notify festival participants of the scheduled practice time and the performance order.


June 26, 2025
Welcome Reception


June 28, 2025
Festival participants try out the performance piano according to the scheduled practice time.


June 29, 2025
