About the Event

*COVID-19 POLICY: Everyone, regardless of vaccine status, is required to wear a mask at all times while indoors, and masks are highly recommended in outdoor areas.

This is the first round of the 2022 San Diego Piano Competition and Festival for Outstanding Amateurs hosted by AmateurPianists. AmateurPianists believes in making piano music accessible to everyone, so all the events over the entire 3 days are FREE to the audience. So come and bring your family and friends!

This Preliminary Round has every promise of being a spectacular one, with 30 superb pianists from 6 countries (US, Canada, Mexico, Belgium, England, and Ireland) and 10 states. They are just like us, people with day jobs/obligations; but they also chose to spend a lot of their discretionary time practicing and practicing and practicing. And we will get a chance to hear them at their best! Perhaps nervous best?

You are invited to attend and applaud enthusiastically, knowing that EVERYONE is a winner just by being selected for this competition. Each competitor will play a 10-minute repertoire, based on their own selection of music, which will be published in the program booklet available to all.

Please register for this Preliminary Round with your RSVP to this event. This will help us monitor the number of people in the audience.

Note: This is the longest session of all so feel free to take a break any time. (As with classical concerts, please enter and exit quietly between pieces.) There is a 45-minute lunch break and a short 15-minutes break in the morning and afternoon.

The jury will select 12 pianists to move on to the Semi-Final Round and the names of the Semi-Finalists will be posted at 6:00 pm PDT on June 24, 2022.

This event will be live-streamed on YouTube. To watch remotely, please visit https://bit.ly/38S1HMW.
